DHTs – the right answer to the Chinese fuel regulations?
Due to the Chinese government’s plans to decrease the energy-efficient passenger car fuel consumption to 4.5l per 100km until 2020 hybrid vehicles will get a significant market share within the next years.
But not only challenging fuel efficiency targets and reduction of CO2 emissions will have impact on the development of hybrid transmissions. Costs, packaging, weight and flexibility of production must be considered as well. So far add-on solutions have been considered firstly.
A new breed of hybrid transmissions was introduced at the 14th International CTI Symposium Berlin in December 2015 which should solve these problems. On the initiative of the chairman, Prof. Dr-Ing. Ferit Küçükay and Dr Robert Fischer (AVL and member of the advisory board), the new transmission concept, Dedicated Hybrid Transmissions (DHT), was defined and firstly presented and discussed. As DHTs perform key transmission functions with the assistance of an electric motor which handles essential tasks DHTs want to offer the optimal balance of functionality and costs.Continue reading
